Bee Day with Higher Works Collaborative
In partnership with Higher Works Collaborative, we hosted a Bee Day to learn about Minnesota's natural world.
In partnership with Higher Works Collaborative, we hosted a Bee Day to learn about Minnesota's natural world. The children participated in a demonstration and informational talk from local beekeeper Phil Kronebusch where they could view a bee box and equipment, learn about all the work bees do, and taste some local honey!
Then, they pretended to be bees in a game to move pollen from flower to flower.
They created posters highlighting something they learned and talked about how to let people know they need to help bees and other pollinators. The posters were displayed at our March concert along with information about how to help Minnesota's native plants and pollinators.
They ended their day with Protein Bite snacks. Like the bees use pollen for protein, the kids enjoyed energy bites made with rolled oats, almond butter (because honeybees pollinate most almond trees!), raisins, chocolate chips, and, of course, local honey!
Thanks to Michelle for the games and activities; Chipy and Kayla in the kitchen; Anne, Kim, and Chipy for photos; and Kim and Phil for the wonderful presentation and answering a million questions!
